There’s something magical about velvet. It makes us think of princess dresses in fairy-tales, like the one Snowwhite was wearing. Or it reminds us of Scarlet O’Hara in ‚Gone with the wind’ wearing her handmade green velvet gown.
About two weeks ago I wore my new velvet dress in light beige silver for the first time. What I love about velvet is the contrast between soft and heavy – soft and heavy, romantic and melancholic like the song ‚If you wear that velvet dress’ by U2 which I heared my inner voice singing wearing that dress. Because of this constrast it’s so easy to play with this fabrique. Wearing a long velvet gown with ankle booties and some fur accessory or statement necklace as seen on the runway models presenting Ralph Lauren collection or on Giorgia Tordini and Gilda Ambrosio during Milan fashion week you feel like a princess. Adding some biker or Dr. Martens boots and some choker necklace instead of glam jewellery you show this 90s attitude which is one of the coolest trends this and the upcoming season – up to gothic styles like Adam Selman does on his runway show for fall winter 2016. You love the more casual and laid-back style? No problem! Put a wide shape velvet dress or some cool velvet pants on, just pure without jewelry and add some slip-ons like the runway-look by Brock. Do not overplay your velvet love. It’s ok if your hair has this fake-out-of-bed look. Only wear one velvet piece like a gown or a suit without velvet accessories or one velvet accessory like beautiful heels or sandals like these ones by Saint Laurent or Gianvito Rossi. Or you do it like Chloé: Give your fall winter 2016 wardrobe a velvet touch by wearing just a velvet scarf bound to a loose bow. Yes I’m completely into velvet this season. What about you?
